LILO
LILO is getting old already, and has been providing good services for quite a lot of people for many years. Yes, we must concede that, aesthetically speaking, it is not very attractive, but it does what is supposed to do without major problems. Furthermore, everyone knows (or knows someone who knows) relatively well how it works.
GRUB
GRUB is modern. Attractive. Tempting, even. It promises great gains for its adopters. And, indeed, some say this promise is true. This is not without risks, though. There are people who swear that, seduced by its beauty, ended up with unrecoverable losses.
